Change To Domestic Violence Leave Entitlements

As part of its four-yearly review of modern awards, the Fair Work Commission has ruled on domestic violence leave entitlements. With effect from 1 August 2018, all modern awards will be amended to include a new clause conferring employees with an entitlement to up to 5 days of unpaid family and domestic violence leave per annum. The unpaid leave will be available to employees who are experiencing family and domestic violence. An employee will be allowed to take leave if they need ‘to do something to deal with the impact of the family and domestic violence and it is impractical for the employee to do that thing outside their ordinary hours of work’.
